The Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is a boating license that is required by law in every province across Canada. All Canadians operating a powered watercraft must be carrying this boating license at all times, and otherwise may face a $250 fine.
In order to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator Card, you must take a Transport Canada approved boating course and pass a multiple choice exam with a score of at least 75%. There is a small fee to take the course and exam, but it is necessary to take the exam one time only. Once you receive your card it the mail, it will be valid for your lifetime.
The course and exam can be taken entirely online using BoaterExam.com®, which is the most convenient way to obtain your card, or you can attend in-person classes and learn from a certified boating safety instructor.
